Nonna's Classic Pizzelle Recipe
What's better than a traditional, family recipe that has been passed down over the generations? Not. A. Thing. And pizzelle are one of those classic recipes that bring me straight back to my childhood. Not many things survived the trip in the 1950's when my Nonno and Nonna moved with their children from Italy to Canada, but recipes are a family treasure that thankfully made it across the Atlantic. As a I kid, I remember these pizzelle being around for every holiday and special occasion, but a extra large batch was always made over the Christmas season. More than a few made their way into Nonna's gift boxes for neighbours, friends and family. Light, crispy and as easy to make as they are to enjoy, these cookies aren't baked, instead they are quickly cooked with a special non-stick pizzelle iron. Depending on your tastes and what region of Italy your family is from, pizzelle can be flavoured with vanilla, anise or even cocoa – and also tinted with food colouring for a playful pop.
From my family to yours, here is how Nonna and her five daughters make them.
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 435g (3 1/2 cups) all purpose flour
- 300g (1 1/2 cups) sugar
- 20g (4 tsp) baking powder
- 30ml (2 tbsp) liquid vanilla extract or anise
- 115g (1/2 cups) butter or margarine
- 95g (1/2 cups) shortening
Makes approximately 60 pizzelle
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, combine baking powder and flour and then sift the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any clumps. Do the same with the sugar, separately.
2. Either by hand or using an electric mixer, in a large bowl begin to beat the eggs and gradually add sugar while continuing to mix, until combined and smooth.
3. Melt the butter or margarine and shortening together and add to the sugar-egg bowl along with the vanilla extra or anise. Continue to mix.
4. Gradually add the sifted flour mix to the bowl while mixing and combine it all until the batter is smooth. The dough is ready when it is no longer sticking to the sides of the bowl, and is sticky enough to scoop and drop by a spoon.
5. Heat up the pizzelle iron and spoon 1 tsp of batter onto each form. Close the lid and hold or lock for approximately 25-30 seconds.
6. Use a flat knife or spatula to remove the pizzelle from the iron and place them on a drying rack to cool. Close the iron lid periodically (every 2-3 batches of cookies) to heat up again before continuing.
7. The pizzelle cool completely within a few minutes. TIP: store the cookies in a parchment paper lined tin or box to stay fresh for a few weeks. Avoid keeping them in plastic containers as this can make them get soft.
Does your family have a traditional cookie that goes back a long way? Let me know in the comments below if you do – or if you make these pizzelle a new tradition – e buon appetitio!
FROM HOTEL SHEETS TO A $639,000,000 MILLION LOTTERY WINNER, THE WEDNESDAY THAT CHANGED MY LIFE:
I worked as a hotel cleaner, struggling to survive and provide for my family. The pay was often not enough for our bills, and sometimes I felt like giving up, but my sister kept encouraging me. One Wednesday at about 2:30pm, a guest came to the hotel celebrating a huge Powerball win. He shared his testimony about how Lord Bubuza, a spell caster, had helped him win by revealing the lottery numbers he played after casting a lottery spell. His story gave me hope, so I contacted Lord Bubuza on WhatsApp: +1 (365) 808 5313 for help. I provided the requirements to cast the lottery spell and he gave me the Powerball winning numbers. I bought a $2 ticket and played. When I checked my ticket, I could hardly believe my eyes. I had won $639,000,000. After years of suffering, I broke down in tears. I am deeply grateful to Lord Bubuza. My story reminds me that even after years of hardship, life can change unexpectedly. Never give up hope, lord Bubuza is a God on Earth and can help you too. I want to stand before you all today to give thanks to Lord Gius for a life-changing miracle. For a long time, my family and I were going through severe financial hardships. We were struggling to pay bills, dealing with mounting debts, and there were days when the weight of our financial future felt completely overwhelming. Despite the stress, I kept praying, holding onto faith, and trusting that a breakthrough would come. A few weeks ago, I made a spontaneous decision to try a lottery spell caster, I did not think much of it at the time, but I whispered a quiet prayer, asking for relief from our burdens. Lord Gius, told me what would be required which i did, then he gave me numbers to play and i did according to his instructions, When the results were announced, I checked the numbers, and to my absolute shock, they matched. I had won the lottery. In that exact moment, a wave of overwhelming relief and gratitude washed over me. I burst into tears, knowing that our financial struggles were instantly over. This blessing has allowed us to clear all our debts, secure a home, and establish a foundation for our family’s future. I am sharing this testimony not to boast about wealth, but to testify to how quickly circumstances can change. I am profoundly grateful for this unearned blessing, and I pray for the wisdom to manage these resources properly, to be a blessing to others, and to remain grounded. Thank you, Lord Gius, for this incredible miracle.

My name is Darlene M, and I never imagined my life could change so fast. I was struggling with some unpaid bills and financial stress for years, and I was constantly wondering how people are able to win the lottery so big because I sometimes play the lottery but never won any big amount, I sought spiritual guidance from Chief Ade after I heard about him, how he has been helping people with the lottery winning numbers, and not long afterwards I won the $16,000,000 MILLION Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot with the numbers he gave me. That incredible win completely transformed my life. I was able to pay off all my debts, purchase a brand-new truck, and make sure my children had everything they needed to pursue their dreams. I also chose to share my good fortune by supporting local charities and helping families in need, because I know what it’s like to struggle. I’m sharing this to remind whosoever seeing this that hope can inspire people to keep believing, even during difficult times. Email: chiefadespellhome@gmail. com || Whats App +234 901 380 6328
